Minute of the discernment meeting for the Experiment with Light Network
3 December 2025
Around thirty of us met together on 3 December 2025 to bring the Experiment with Light and its future into the Light. Two main themes recurred; the value of the Experiment that all of us feel, and the need to be courageous in bringing it to Quakers and beyond.
We should take seriously our role as bringers of the Light; this practice gives us glimpses of God in ourselves so that we can be the Light within our Meetings and outside. It is the Heart-light that is needed, not the Head-light.
The Experiment itself is a pearl of great price; it is true, powerful, valuable, joyful; and the process is the first of our Advices and Queries writ large. How shall we communicate this? How do we get the Experiment out there, to help dissolve fear, disconnection and division?
Our final image was of hands too far apart to hold the grain, so that the grain is slipping though the hands. We know that many are already taking the Experiment out beyond our own small Quaker world, but how can we make better connections with each other, form partnerships and work together in unity? How can we hold the Experiment safely and send it forth so that our grain may grow?

Every second / fourth Tuesday we meet on zoom to do the slightly shorter individual Experiment with Light. To join us please email experimentwithlight@gmail.com.
Participants will be able to join the Zoom meeting from 3.50pm onwards, to iron out any potential technical issues before the start of the session. The guided meditation will last for about 25 minutes. There will then be about 10 minutes time for personal reflection, followed by a time for sharing what has come up in the meditation for those who wish to do so. This will be held in the style of worship-sharing (or creative listening). The session will finish around 5.15pm.
The meditation, time for reflection and sharing are all part of one process. Therefore please do not join the meeting after the meditation has started (around 4.10pm) and do stay until the end of the session.
